Festivities are around the corner and so is the excitement for hosting parties. If you are planning a party and that too a memorable one, then you need to plan it well in advance. Party planning takes time, creativity, and organization. Whether it’s a small gathering for family and friends, a Halloween party or a birthday party, planning a party should be a structured process with carefully defined steps. Our party planning checklist should help keep your planning on track. We’ve put together a list of everything you need for planning any party – now it’s just up to you to tick it all off as you go along.
1. Choose your party theme
This one’s a biggie because your planning doesn’t start until you’ve chosen your party theme. But these days, there are so many themes to choose from that you can feel a bit spoilt for choice!
2. Make an invitation list
For a large party, invite 20 percent more people than you can fit, since typically only 70 to 80 percent of invitees attend.
3. Set a date and choose your venue
Decide on a date keeping public holidays and weekends in mind so that it’s convenient for everyone. Check out the venue well in advance according to the number of people you want to invite.
4. Send your invites
Just make sure you let people know well in advance so that they can save the date and it helps to avoid conflicting plans. If you have kept a theme party then share the theme along with the invite. This gives them enough notice to come prepared based on the party theme. Don’t forget to send the reminders one or two weeks before the date. Personalized invitations can bring a nice little touch if you are celebrating a really special occasion like first birthday or a baby shower.
5. Stock up on party supplies and decorations
This is where the real fun starts! Shop all the decorations which matches your theme. Your tableware, cutlery, napkins should be well coordinated with your theme. Paper decorations like fans, honeycombs, lanterns, banners and bunting can help your venue look even more awesome. You can decide on these decorations according to their color coordination or can choose it according to the theme you have decided.
6. Decide your menu
Assemble the recipes, if you decide on making the food yourself. Accordingly, make a shopping list. Place an order well in advance if you decide on hiring the catering services. But, do try to incorporate the theme of that party in at least one or two dishes in the entire menu.
7. Stock the drinks
Keeping in mind the taste and liking of your guests stock your bar and drinks. You can choose liquid activated LED glasses to make it look more happening.
8. Decide on your playlist
Any party would be rocking with music. The music could be playing softly in the background or could be upbeat. Whatever the occasion, the playlist should be sufficient to last through the party.
9. Inform your neighbors
If you decide on throwing a party at home, let them know you’re having a party if you expect it to be large and loud.
10. Party day
Decorate the venue and get the party started and have fun!
